Self-care, which includes self-medication, is an important feature of healthcare and a lot of people are keen to accept more personal responsibility for their health by obtaining as much sound information as possible from expert sources. This is due to a variety of reasons that may range from high medical costs, to the current economic situation and having access to a proliferation of health information on the Internet!
Whilst it is positive to take a more active interest in healthcare as an individual, it is important to note the critical role that pharmacists play in providing assistance, advice and information about medicines available for self-medication.

These problems can be treated with over-the-counter medicines that can be purchased without a doctor's prescription however all self-medication must be done with care! Those that choose to self-medicate for minor complaints must always follow the advice of a doctor or pharmacist and inform them if symptoms appear frequently or persist.
