Muscular pain is most commonly caused by an unaccustomed bout of exercise, and is simply the result of microscopic tears due to excessive loading and tension on the muscles. These tears usually heal over 2 to 3 days but this recovery period can be accompanied by a degree of pain as a result of inflammation.
Muscular pain may also occur as a result of a sudden tear in the muscle. In this case, the pain will be highly localised and the onset of pain will be sudden!
A further cause of muscular pain can also be as a result of chronic conditions such as:
- Infections – flu, malaria, polio, roundworm, Lyme disease
- Fibromyalgia
- Rhabdomyolysis Polymyalgia rheumatica
- Lupus
If the cause of your pain is obviously due to unaccustomed exercise or a sudden muscle injury, rest, ice the affected area and use anti-inflammatory treatments, such as Fastum Gel, to reduce inflammation.
